The Department of Emergency Services has launched a new emergency notification system powered by EVERBRIDGE to provide residents with fast, reliable, and secure emergency alerts. “The decision to transition to Everbridge was made after careful evaluation, with the safety and reliability of our emergency communications as our highest priorities,” said Emergency Services Director Yvette Cross. “We understand that changing platforms may cause some inconvenience, but this transition provides Somerset County with a modern, flexible system that will help us continue delivering timely and effective emergency information to our community.”
Everbridge replaces the County’s previous emergency notification platform, CodeRED. The County transitioned to Everbridge as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize emergency communications and provide residents with enhanced options for receiving timely, location-based alerts. The new platform provides greater flexibility in how residents receive emergency information and allows the County to maintain a reliable notification system that can adapt to the community’s needs.
Although Everbridge begins with an existing database of telephone numbers, residents should not assume their phone number is already included. Everyone who lives, works, attends school, or regularly visits Somerset County is encouraged to register as soon as possible.
Registering allows users to:
- Choose how they receive alerts, including text message, phone call, and email.
- Add multiple contact methods.
- Customize location-based notifications.
- Keep contact information current and accurate.
The registration process is quick and easy. Once enrolled, you can receive time-sensitive emergency notifications wherever you choose, including your home phone, mobile phone, email, text messages, hearing-impaired receiving devices, and other supported communication methods. You decide where and how you receive important alerts.

Residents can be confident there will be no interruption in Somerset County’s ability to notify the public during emergencies. While the County builds its subscriber base in the new system, emergency information will continue to be distributed through multiple channels, including:
- Government Emergency Alert System (EAS)
- Television & Radio outlets
- Somerset County Emergency Services website
- Somerset County social media channels
The effectiveness of any emergency notification system depends on community participation. By registering for Everbridge alerts, residents help ensure the County can quickly notify the entire community or specific affected areas during emergencies such as severe weather, wildfires, public safety incidents, hazardous material events, or other urgent situations.
