Yvette Sterling Cross
Director of Emergency Services
As your Emergency Services Director, my top priority is the safety and well-being of the citizens of Somerset County. Emergencies can happen at any time, whether caused by severe weather, public health threats, man-made disasters, or other unforeseen events. That’s why our team is dedicated to preparing, coordinating, and responding to keep you and your families safe.
A vital part of this mission is the daily operation of our 911 Communications Center. Our dedicated dispatchers are on duty 24/7, ensuring that calls for help are answered quickly and that police, fire, and emergency medical services are dispatched without delay. Their professionalism and commitment form the critical first link in our community’s emergency response system.
Preparedness is also a shared responsibility. We encourage every resident and business to take simple steps now such as creating an emergency plan, staying informed through official alerts, and keeping essential supplies on hand. By working together, we can strengthen our resilience and recover more quickly when challenges arise.
Our department is committed to transparency, coordination, and service. We work closely with local
agencies, first responders, and community partners to ensure that when emergencies occur, we are ready to respond effectively.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in building a safer, stronger community. Please explore the resources on this website, sign up for emergency notifications, and do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns.
Stay safe, stay prepared.
