911 COMMUNICATIONS

911 Communications Center

Operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 911 Center personnel are the first of the first responders, providing that vital first link in the chain of public safety when handling emergency calls for the Police, EMS, and Fire Department.

As the Public Safety Answering Point in the county, the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services 9-1-1 Communications Division answers all emergency phone calls for help as well as administrative lines for alarms, public inquiries, etc. Additionally, we answer administrative lines after hours for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office & Princess Anne Police and overnight for Crisfield Police Department.

The 911 Specialists obtain information from the callers by using a protocol system, known as Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD). These protocols allow the 911 Specialist to ask the caller a series of questions, obtaining specific information about the patient or incident. Call-takers provide Safety information and Pre-Arrival Instructions to citizens on emergency calls and police lines. All Somerset County 911 Specialists are Nationally Certified by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch and State Certified by MIEMSS.
